What is hypnosis?
Many clinical studies exist to suggest that hypnosis can be used in treating a wide variety of physical and/or psychological conditions.
Although viewed with trepidation by some, hypnosis is a very relaxing and pleasant experience. In fact, it is an entirely natural process that we commonly experience in everyday life.
For example, hypnotic trance occurs when our attention is focussed so intently that we become unaware of time or surroundings, for example, whilst ‘lost’ in a book, or a film; we become less aware of what is going on ‘outside’, and more focussed on what is happening ‘inside'.
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a form of psychotherapy that utilizes hypnotic techniques, its effects are both gentle and powerful. Treatment is tailored to individual needs, and results are achievable within a much shorter time period than other forms of psychotherapy.
It is a natural therapy that harnesses a person’s in-built capacity to heal themselves. This is achieved by enlisting each individual’s natural ability to focus attention ‘inside’. In doing this, the source of underlying problems - that are proving detrimental to health and wellbeing - can be identified more easily, making it easier to facilitate solutions to these problems.
By focussing attention on the unconscious, negative and destructive patterns and thought processes that have built over time can be changed into more positive and helpful ones.
Often presenting symptoms are simply the best solutions that our systems have been able to come up with in order to deal with underlying problems. In hypnotherapy the therapist and patient work together in order to find more appropriate and effective answers and move towards specific and achievable goals.
How can I help?
My approach to therapy is simple. It is to listen hard and to treat effectively. My training has been well rounded and eclectic and my methods are solution-based and goal- orientated.
Firstly, we will identify the problem and how it is affecting you, before focussing on how you would like things to change. Then we will set about using techniques which suit you and your needs, in order to help these changes to occur.
Mine is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach to hypnotherapy, as I firmly believe that the success of the treatment very much depends on using the most appropriate methods that best serve each individual.
